Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse will celebrate Play-A-Palooza, its seasonal playground grand opening party on Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 12pm - 4pm. This year, children 10 and younger and their caregivers will experience a newly transformed Playground featuring a brand new nature play space side-by-side with favorites including the historic 39 foot-long Ann Newman Giant Wooden Slide and over 50 pieces of unique play equipment on 6 ½ wooded acres in East Fairmount Park.
Several local partners will contribute to the day’s activities which include a mobile farm truck from Greener Partners and The Junior League of Philadelphia; nature activities led by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation’s Grow Up Green program; soccer activities led by Soccer Shots; painting led by Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture; spin art presented by The Hacktory; Boggle, Scrabble, and other mind-bending games from Philly Tutors; hands-on family literacy activities from Words at Play; carnival games and treats from NorthEast Treatment Centers; and healthy snacks provided by Happy Family Super Foods and Trader Joe's. In addition, the Free Library of Philadelphia’s READ! by 4th initiative will pilot its “Book-on-a-Hook” program by tethering a children’s book to a Playground bench in celebration of Read Across America! and Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
Tickets are $10/child and free for Smith members! Membership is only $30 and includes free admission to this event. All adults must be accompanied by a child. Accompanying adults and current members can RSVP here for free.
