Dr. Kathy Hirsh-Pasek is the author of 14 books and over 200 professional articles on early
childhood and infant development, and an expert on language, literacy, and playful learning.
Her recent book, Becoming Brilliant: What Science Tells Us About Raising Successful Children, was on the NY Times Best Seller List in Education and Parenting. This year, Dr. Hirsh-Pasek and
her team are piloting a new project, Urban Thinkscapes, which will create opportunities for
engaged learning in public spaces.
Members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at La Salle University have been consistent Smith
volunteers over many years. Most recently, they led activities at Smith’s Healthy Halloween
family party for 480 kids and 326 adults.
Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse is a non-profit organization located in Philadelphia’s East Fairmount Park. Founded in 1899, Smith welcomes over 180,000 visitors annually from more than 500 zip code areas. The mission of Smith is to provide and promote opportunities for unstructured free play for children.
