ABOUT ABOUT

We are excited that later this year Nature Explore will create a Nature Play space for Smith's Playground!  Our staff will be learning nature play strategies from Nature Explore and we invite teachers, parents, and caregivers to join us to find out about using outdoor classrooms for fun and learning.

Using Your Outdoor Classroom
Nature Explore Workshop at Smith Memorial Playground
Monday, October 5th
5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
Registration Deadline: September 28th
(open to the first 35 participants)

Through fun and engaging hands-on experiences, participants will gain techniques for using outdoor classrooms as an integral part of daily preschool and elementary education. Discover how well-designed outdoor spaces facilitate children’s overall development in traditional academic areas, strengthen specific skills, and aid social-emotional growth. Finally, explore a variety of strategies for facilitating and assessing student learning in outdoor classrooms while engaging children with different levels of interests and needs.

Nature Explore is a collaborative program of the Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation.  The Nature Explore Outdoor Clasroom initiative was created to expand urban green spaces and engage children with nature in areas that support a high percentage of underserved children.  More information at natureexplore.org
